Well just slappin down some ties, I am free handing it so there is some nice variation in the tie placement which adds appeal to my eyes anyway...
Outstanding work! tie after tie after tie..........tremendous courage!
it's really well done!

Oh it's fun! I gotta order some more stuff from ROW soon... And thank you.
Seeing your work so far, Chris - I doubt that you're slappin' them down.
I bet you can't wait to get some rails on them.
I always thought hand laid ties looked great! I just have never wanted to do it myself. Your's are looking very good, that varied look is very good!!

Well there may be a little more thought than that. And I'm looking forward to laying some rail.....eventually.

Thanks Mark. It definitely can be tedious but I just love the final look too much..
Brianeso- Thank you....patient? A little...mostly I just love the details.
WOW, Chris, this will be the first thread I fallow where someone was hand laying ties let alone rails. Great work and I cant wait to see more! thanks for all the post you put up here its a pleasure to fallow along!
Thank you Mike. I really enjoy hand laying, it's fun for me, and there is a bunch more to come.
Chris,
I tried to email you about your video(s) especially the fancy flex track bender. Since I just ordered $2000 worth I'd like to share it (okay, I already shared it a little bit).
Is the email address shown in your profile still correct?
Jay
Email sent Jay...and yes my email is still the same.
I have begun staining the ties I put down last week, this is the first step in a 2 step staining/coloring process that I use. First I apply a gray stain to the ties as a base color, afterwards I will apply a blend of a Woodland Scenics pigment and a ebony colored stain as a top coat, once dried the final look is pretty good to my eyes. I am working on a section of the layout at a time before moving on to the next.

WOW WOW WOW
What are you going to do with the track that you bent on your last video? Do you take the rail off and lay them on these ties?
WOW!
No I'm going to use it in other areas of the layout....I may borrow a rail here and there....
Great great work!
You gave me an idea and I ordered last week all it's needed to make an attempt of hand laying track (on a short length of course and no turnout!!!!); at the same time, I followed on you tube your videos about it; very impressive! with my poor english, I don't understand all what you say but the videos are very clear and well done.
We will see the result...........

Hey that's wonderful! And your English is just fine... Please post some photos of the track when you are ready I would love to see it.
And thank you....
Chris,
That curve is the perfect place to show off your equipment. Flowing, flowing, flowing. Nice planning and execution.
Ed
Thanks Ed, I was really wanting it to be nice and flowing and I got lucky...I have what I think will be a good idea for scenery in that location when the time comes.
great progress! thanks for sharing.

Thank you, I'm just plugging away a little at a time.
I have applied the final coloring to the ties in the current section that I'm working on, it is a mixture of Woodland Scenics Raw Umber pigment and some ebony colored stain from Minwax. I mix up a batch and just brush it on and allow it to dry for an hour or so, simple and quick and I'm very happy with the results. Here are some photos of the results...in some of the images the coloring is still wet, it drys a bit lighter and to a matte finish. Here is a link to a video I made of the process also.

Looks GREAT Chris! Another wizkid here on the Forum! I just love the work you are doing. As for myself I will be just buying the track! I feel just to old and lazy! LOL
Thanks Mike! Hey that's ok, there's nothing lazy about that...just enjoy the hobby to the fullest.
Ties color looks real; fine work, Chris!
I will try to do as good as you but....we will see; it will be my first attempt....

Thank you. I am sure your work will come out great, take it slow, work at your pace and enjoy it.
Thanks, Chris! I hope so!
Perhaps I missed the information on the videos or here on the forum, but what do you use as roadbed? At first sight it's cork? And which brand do you recomend to me?
Thanks in advance

I am using cork this time, in the past I have gone with Homasote. The cork I use is from Midwest Cork, I went with it because I had a bunch on hand this time around.
Thanks for your answer; it's very kind.

You're welcome.
