New Membership and York attendance

Nope. She does not need to be a member but must register as a spouse for the York meet. 

You will not need to pay an admission fee for your wife. Spouses and children under a certain age are free.

There is plenty of time to join.  I would join ASAP if you want to save the $7-$8 by pre-registering for the meet.  Pre-registrations must be received by EDTCA by March 9, 2015.  I don't know what the deadline is for online registrations.

 

Once you get your TCA ID number, you can register.  I joined early in 2008 and was still able to pre-register and go to the Spring 2008 York.

 

If worse comes to worse, you can always join at the meet itself by going to the registration desk in the Silver Hall.

As per the registration form: Spouses / Significant Other and all children under 18. BTW, "all" children includes grandkids, nieces and nephews, etc. Doesn't have to be a relative. See you at York !

By all means Marshel, it would be a good thing for you to join the TCA and as far as the York Meet is concerned, it is the best place to buy and sell O-Gauge trains and related equipment. My wife went to the York Meet for the first time this past October and loved it. We both are really looking forward to the April Meet.

 

This past Sunday we attended the Amherst Train Show in Springfield, MA. The admission was $ 14.00 each plus $ 5.00 parking fee. I have no complaints about this, but the York Meet is $ 12.00 for both of us and it is 100 times better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some people complain about the $ 50.00 TCA membership fee, but when you consider all of the benefits you get with a TCA membership including the ability to go to York twice a year. I think it is the best bargain of the year.

 

So join and go to the York Meet. Just good advice.

If you have never been to the York event, by all means, go.  It is perhaps the largest display of everything conceivable about 0 gauge trains that you will find (at least that has been my experience so far--we don't know what the future will bring, however).  There is plenty of parking around the area and the walk from parking to the buildings is short.  However, if you are like me in the past and buy a lot of stuff, you will be making multiple trips to your car that day just to unload.  Do not even consider walking around the tables with a lot of stuff--it is cumbersome, tiring, and you risk damage from bumps (especially with large plastic buildings, for example).  Wear comfortable shoes and take tip money for the restroom facilities if you do tip there.  If possible take a bag lunch and leave it in the car--the food  served by the vendors outside may leave much to be desired, particularly if you are on a special diet.  When I took my wife (who is not a train buff), she marveled at the number of people interested in this hobby, although even she remarked that being in our early to mid 60's, we seemed to be the youngest folks there!  But, hey, it's like being a kid again in a toy store--the euphoria is irreplaceable!  I saw some old guy who was with his wife (she was bored to tears and sat outside).  When he came out with a lot of stuff, he was so excited and happy.  He proceeded to tell her what great things he purchased all the while she just rolled her eyes to the sky.  I just laughed and thought how this one occasion brought some kind of joy for him even though his wife couldn't appreciate it.  But you know what?  I think down deep inside, she felt happy for him despite her lack of appreciation which probably made for a better relationship for the both of them the rest of the day.  Have fun!!!!
