I spoke with a general merchandise manager in a Wegmans Food Market today and he said No new trains or accessories this year due probably to slow sales on items last year. If you find a Wegmans with trains and/or accessories it's probably holdovers from last year that didn't sell. He was lucky last year after Christmas that during a clearance markdown a man came in and bought everything they had left over for his grandson. He had 2 sets from 2 years ago and 1 of the new Lionel Lioncheif Set, buildings, extra rolling stock, and track to build a layout with his grandson and the man bought everything on sale. Lucky kid & great grandfather.  Hope it worked out well for both of them!

Hi Gary,

The General Merchandiser is probably correct.  I have been asking the merchandiser at a store near me, and she said that Lionel Trains were not on the list of items they were focusing on this Christmas holiday.  They may not be selling them at all anymore.  Although, like last year, the LionChief Sets did not arrive until a week before Christmas.  So, it may be a last minute item if customers ask about it or demand them.

There is one thing about Wegmans.  They do respond to the customers.

jpc, when you get the new stores you'll love them, even through they're only from Massachusetts to Virginia and based out of Rochester,  NY, they have approx 90 stores and Consumer Reports voted them #1 supermarket chain in America.  For the last few years they had Lionel O Gauge Trains with Wegmans Rolling Stock cars and Wegmans name on the Locomotive & Tender. Sounds like they're not selling them this year. They were good starter sets but probably not what customers were looking to spend money on there.
I believe 4 or 5 sets, I know the first set was a G gauge set, then I think they had a O Gauge set with Lionel Lines on the Locomotive and/or tender. I think they had 2 different sets with Wegmans on the Locomotive and/or tender,  and the Lionchief Wegmans set last year.  I have 2 sets of the first O Gauge with the Wegmans on the Locomotive and/or tender set. One to run and I got the 2nd set on clearance after Christmas and that one set is still sealed and unopened, just in case maybe it's worth something years down the road if Wegmans ever gets real big! If not, I'll have a cheap set for a backup!
