Hey Members:

Just doing my usual mental planning and I was thinking back to my diesel trains, particularly the ones that didn't have any non-powered cars.  I was wondering if any of the major companies carried any dummy cars that were the equivalent in size and appearance to the Lionel KATY SD70ACE, the Lionel Texas Special SD70ACE and the Lionel MOPAC SD70ACe.  I haven't seen these cars with a non-powered car by Lionel.

Dummies aren't for Dummies!

Can you imagine how much fun one can have pushing non-powered engines around a "reachable" layout? I can. My grandson loves to take my power off of the layout and push the dummies though their switching duties for hours. For all the hi-tech that many of us are into, its fun to watch a child use his or her imagination. He even has "sound"...quite good I might add. I think he's on to something. Talk about play value.

That's why we gave our kids Brio trains when they were young. Very appropriate for young children, for a number of reasons. They can push them around and hook up different engines and cars, and best of all, they can build different layouts and easily move around accessories to create different scenes, etc. Building different layouts is at least as entertaining to them - if not more so - than moving the trains, and is great training for the imagination and developing certain thought processes in young minds. And of course the trains and track are nearly indestructible.

Again, are you referring to a "non-powered" locomotive model, or a "car" model?

I was wondering if I could purchase the frame with trucks, the shell and the other components from Lionel or anyone else to put together a non-powered train since I can't seem to find the ones I need.

Just curious but, what would be the purpose of a "non-powered train", i.e. how would it move?
