I just received my much anticipated Berkshire. I have been reading all the comments from those who already received the 765, that really got me excited and anxious to receive mine.

When I unwrapped the engine the front truck (wheel) fell to the table followed by small pieces. One piece is a bushing, second very small piece maybe part of the bushing. Second bushing is not present, after much searching I verified it is not present.

I called Lionel, was told to return the engine. I asked if I could just get the parts that would save time I could have the 765 running quicker. I was put on hold then was told there would not be any parts for at least two weeks. I asked why then would I return the whole engine? I then called the company that sold me the engine, they told me they will replace it, they will email me a call tag. Then Lionel called me back to tell me they did receive parts today and would ship them to me tomorrow.

I guessing the best will be to wait for the parts? Hopefully it is a easy fix?? I am attaching photos.

It is nice to have it resolved, I am just upset.

When I receive the bushings do I need to super glue them in the slot?

Mine arrived with a broken bearing too. I called lionel and the part for the previous legacy release is available. They're sending it to me. pn 6308050054
This is the 3rd or 4th steamer that Ive received with one of these plastic things broken. They really need to cushion the pilot and trailing axles better, or use metal bearings.

Looking at the pictures of the "pieces" and the "T" shaped slot, it may be a bearing & retainer in one. They may have pressed it in too hard at assembly, fracturing it, then it fell out in shipment.

If it looks like it is made to wedge in place, don't over do it when you install the new parts. Boilermaker can probably advise, based on his experience.

I see bigdodgetrain caught it while I was typing.

I had this exact problem a few years ago with the trailing truck on my 11203 Pere Marquette.  Why does Lionel feel that it's necessary to use fragile delrin bearings in this application?  Bronze was the  accepted solution for a long time; MTH Premier steam seem to have a better mechanical pedigree in this regard.  Same scenario- "parts not available," etc.  At the time I gave their service dep't an earful.  Eventually they sent something that worked, although it wasn't the same as the bearing on the opposite side so it probably wasn't the correct replacement part.

What are they doing to the front & rear trucks?  Equally mysterious, how are the box and the rest of the loco surviving these impacts without visible damage?  I sympathize with the original poster, Lionel definitely needs to address this issue!

This happened to my Polar Express. I attributed it to a worker in a hurry to press in the axle.

You cannot press on the axle when installing the new bearing. It will break the bearing again. Press on the edge of the bearing. I used two flat screw driver sides to push on both at the same time. Then the end on each one to get the final snap.
