This is a real punch in the gut to those of us who grew up in N&W families. N&W "built" Roanoke! Article 

 

The bulk of these jobs are headed to Atlanta, the home of Southern. After how my father was treated following the merger, I couldn't imagine how I could have had a lower opinion of Southern RR executives. Until now.

Gilly, I don't know when you were last in Roanoke, but their huge coal yard is now practically a ghost town.  It is still a busy town for rail action, but nothing like it was even 10 years ago.  A railroad or any other business cannot exist just to maintain jobs.  The jobs have to go where the work is.  Sad to say but true.
