Tom,

     That is one book I haven't picked up yet, but have been meaning too. I'm always looking for more resources! My library has grown a lot since then. The quality of people of the forum pushes me to do further research and know things just a little bit better. I've also built up a library of documents from the O&W to help in research and in hopes that one day I can run a fairly prototypical model RR. I wish I had been born a little earlier so that both memorabilia and paperwork would be a little easier to find!

     I've also found along the way... seeing as this thread is a couple years old and I haven't made much progress... that I'm a stickler for details. After the O-scale structures, I started working on some HO O&W hopper kits, and stopped when I realized the brake components are all wrong and some kit-bashing will be needed!

     Which book did they publish that you wrote?

    

 

I've been enjoying this thread for a while; great layout plans! My ideas for getting some O&W onto my layout are a little more fictional.

My premise is that the NYO&W actually got past Oswego NY and lived up to the Ontario & Western part of its name, becoming a border railroad reaching points west. That way there's some logic in seeing GN / CP / NYOW together 

I remember the O&W only from the Model Railroader trackplans book, and liked the Class 1 railroad that looked like a country branchline in many spots. (except for the heavy bridge traffic zones of course)

Well, its about time that more people came out with NYO&W rolling stock & engines, because the big companies rarely do. More power to the independent shop owners that put out custom runs!

 

I am sad that I missed JR Junction custom run of NYO&W steam engines.

 

I did just pick up the New Atlas O O&W hoppers cars from JR Junction this week. You have to snatch O&W up when it is out because there is so little of it.

 

I can't wait to see what JR Junctions new O&W custom runs are going to be!

Well, you could buy an airbrush and then learn how to use it.  There simply are no suitable steam locomotives for the O&W in 0 gage, regardless of just a stuck-on tender emblem to kinda sorta make a realistic choo chooo train. It just doesn't make an O&W locomotive.  But 0 3rail EMD NW 2's, FT's and F3's abound.

 

That or you could switch to H0.  I understand something spectacular is in the works coming in H0 SCALE brass.

I missed JR's custom steam engine too, I've been searching far and wide but haven't been able to find them. They came out before I really had the financial resources to to buy stuff.

 

As far as I know, only JR Junction, The Old & Weary Car Shop, and I think Public Delivery Track do any NYO&W custom runs, so I try and support them when I can. It is also why I am a pretty faithful follower of MTH as they seem to churn out NYO&W equipment more often than the others.

 

Between Jr Junction and their projects and The Old and Weary's plans, sounds like my train budget for the rest of the year may be used up! Hopefully MTH's vol II catalog goes easy on me.

I do happen to own one! Using it proficiently... that is another story. I do dabble in HO unfortunately, I don't have the funds for both O and the high quality brass that is around. I have some Stewart and Athearn diesels that I'm very happy with, and a bunch of ho custom runs, again, from the Old and Weary.

 

Perhaps eventually I'll get into kitbashing and modifying some proper O&W steam.

My point is taking some non-O&W locomotive meaning any smoke-box centered headlight engine (aside from a NYC L2c model) with no more than a sticker on the tender doesn't make it an "NYO&W Steam Locomotive." 

 

It should at least look like the thing did in my view.  And the above center headlights of O&W engines alone precludes that.

 

So if you do own an airbrush, what's the problem in doing this stuff for yourself from used eBay equipment to keep it genuinely cheap?
