odyssey repair question

You will need a flywheel puller as its on there very tight. The replacement flywheel is a loose fit and it held on with a set screws. You need the replacement flywheel plus a new magnet. 

If you have a lot of Odyssey engines it might be worth it to get the puller. If not you could consider getting an ERR Cruise M which will allow you to leave the motor as it is. Compare your total cost before jumping in.

I don't have many Odyssey engines.  I've heard about the ERR Cruise M. 

It doesn't look like a conversion changes how you control the engine with a CAB-1, so it might be a good solution.

Dave, not only is the control the same as with the Odyssey board but will also be considerably smoother. One reason you might want to keep it Odyssey is if you have  another powered A or B that goes with this set. Err cruise and Odyssey might have different speed characteristics and not run as well together.

Some of the time stuff like markers are connected to the Odyssey DCDS, check and see if there are other things connected to the DCDS before jumping into the pool.  The Cruise Commander M has the capability, but it may require some rewiring.

thanks - I'll look it over.  Times like this I wish they supplied wiring diagrams in the owners manual. 

A very common complaint of mine is the lack of wiring diagrams, especially for newer stuff.  There is a PDF file of representative locomotive schematics, but I tried to upload it and it chokes.  It does have some Odyssey diagrams showing connections for markers, etc.

 Edit: I got the file to upload, apparently the forum was having indigestion when I tried previously.

Take a look at those diagrams and see if that helps.
