I see a lot of people paint their Masonite skirts any issues with chipping or peeling? I love photos so please include if you can.

I am planning on using 5mm Lauan plywood for my "skirting"
I am only planning on making it from the top fo the table to about 10 inches wide. I will then use a traditional fabric skirt below that.
I am using Lauan for a few reasons.
1) I can paint or stain it really easily.
2) Price - It will only cost me about 15 bucks for the amount I need
3) no one here sells masonite!
Havent had any issues with paint chipping. Paint away.
Paint both sides to reduce warping.
Excuse the mess but it will be all tidy for the operating session this week.
I just use a fascia of 3MM MDF, I used curtains down below once but didn't like them. The photos show the fascia one photo shows before and after, all are painted Matt Black which I have used for 40 years not the same tin of paint, the colour! Usually I don't store items under the layout but the kids have a storage problem at the moment so Dad has to help out Grrrrr. No chips, if there was easy to paint over. Roo.

Very nice and if your tran rooms not a mess your not working on it. That means the fun is over.
If it's tempered masonite you can coat it with an oil like Thompson's weather seal it turns real dark, doesnt scratch Be better to use an interior oil.
The riveted beams and silver panels on my skirting are masonite.

I had no problem finding Masonite and painted it with simple interior enamel. I went to a Home Depot with a Bachmann box for one of my On30 cars and said, “Match this” as I could find anything for the Southern RR ‘Sylvan’ green that I would have liked (as the RR I model likely used that color during their locomotive re-paints in the 1930s to match SRR colors). Home Depot can’t make paint from color codes, I found out, darn it.
I don’t think I used any primer if memory serves (I did need primer for the car card boxes I got from Micro Mark due to the finish of the wood on those). The only tough part was masking/tarping to make sure I didn’t get any paint on the carpet.
