Everyone,

First,  I will apologize in advance if this is in the wrong forum or if this information has already been posted elsewhere.   With sadness,  I must report the passing of Matt Irvin this past Wednesday Oct. 19.   While at home,  Matt suffered a major heart attack and could not be revived by the paramedics.   For the last several years,  Matt had been going through a series of MAJOR health issues and fought a tough battle.   Matt was a member of our club,  The Pittsburgh Independent Hi Railers and was also a member of the TCA Fort Pitt Division Hi Railers.    Whenever our club was set up with a display,  Matt thoroughly enjoyed handing his Legacy remote over to the younger kids attending and let them have a go at it after a little instruction.    Matt also designed several layouts that were/are being built.   Just wanted to let the Forum members know about Matt's passing in case any of you knew him.   He'll be missed.

Thanks,

Nick

Some of Matt's, Fort Pitt/ Independent Hi Railer' Modules.

The animation module, a favorite with the kids, there were several buttons with related animation.

It was always amazing, where did he get all this?  We were continually adding unique piece.

There was an animated bear that would slowly pop out at you.

Matt was just a wonderful part of my Model Railroad hobby experience.  Thanks Matt

..., but he sure had a sense of humor with the Banana Split, Apple Shack and Big Burger structures.

His city modules, part of which can be seen in Mike CT's photos, were packed full of humorous little scenes, and those modules were always a big hit at our Kennywood setups.  You had to spend a lot of time looking at those modules to see all the details he packed into them.  He was a fantastic modeler, layout designer, and ambassador for the hobby, but above all he was an all-around great person.  I am blessed to have known him even for just a handful of years.  He will be missed by all of us.

Here's a link to his obituary for those who wish to see it.

I echo everyone's sentiments who knew Matt what a great modeler, ambassador and all-around swell guy he was.  I only knew Matt for the few years that I have been involved with the Pittsburgh modular clubs but i considered him a friend and I will miss him greatly.  God's blessings on him, and his family as they get through the weeks and months ahead.
