It may be a little early to post this but I just noticed that "American Experience", a show produced by Boston's PBS station WGBH, is premiering "The Race Underground" on Tuesday, January 31 at 9:00 PM. I don't know whether other PBS stations will be broadcasting it, hence, the early heads-up to be on the lookout. The member magazine promises to cover the engineering challenges, the "selfish" interests of businessmen, and the "great fears" of the people.

That's what I did. It's the only way I'm going to remember :-). Recently I saw a film on the digging effort for the Boston subway system. I don't know whether it was related (like a coming attractions/teaser program) but it was intetesting. It covered moving the dirt, people's fear of being underground (where dead people are buried), and concerns about gas from homes leaking into the tunnels. I expect that this program will be well done.

Calendar is marked. I think I will check my DVR listings later tonight and if it shows up set it to record, just in case. We usually enjoy the PBS programs like that as well. There's some pretty interesting stuff on there sometimes ans as you say, always well done too.
I enjoyed the program and it definitely helped that I marked my calendar 
. There is a review of the program on another post that said pretty much what I would have. It's worth seeing even if you aren't from the area because the story covers VA (?), NYC, and then Boston. The introduction includes a quick visit to Britain, too. Frank Sprague, the inventor of a new kind of motor, is my hero.

Yes, it was a very interesting and informative program. The fact frank Sprague invented the first effective electric traction motor, to be later bought by and produced in the name of Edison, says a lot in itself. Anyone interested in trollies, interurbans, any traction motive power, would enjoy the production. It was good to learn the first electrified trolley in America was in Richmond, Va and the first American subway was built in Boston. All in all, an excellent program for all to view and learn from.
