you know I never really cared for the look of this streamlined locomotive. Turner Classic Movies had Broadway Limited on the other day, and today I finally got to watch it. Seeing 3768 (renumbered 3763 for the movie) in action (with a lot of other Pennsy engines and rolling stock) I have to admit it's starting to grow on me. I'll have to start watching for a forlorn boiler shell so I can make up a true Pacific.

The look good as Pacifics.

thanks Steve, I had forgotten about that one you did. Still great looking! Now I have a plan...
papa ,that is one super nice set,,,,!!!
I agree, that's a very good looking train.
I use a K-Line semi-scale Pennsylvania Torpedo to pull my Lionel Classics Rail Chief streamliner set. Lionel originally intended the set to be run behind a 700E, but to my eye the 700E is way too big for those cars and the semi-scale Torpedo is just right. The tuscan color of the K-Line Torpedo isn't a great match for the maroon of the Rail Chief, but it's OK. I also have a K-Line semi-scale Dreyfuss that I'm planning to repaint to go with the Rail Chief. I'm thinking of doing it in black or dark gunmetal with maroon on the tender top, cab roof, and skyline casing.
I always like the box tenders ,,,never the modern ones that, lionel/mth came out with,,only the mth premier and the k-line were correct,,,,
I have a 238E with a whistle tender, which runs well, and looks pretty good for it's age. Bought it from Barry's Train Shop a while ago, gave it to Marv to make it run properly.
I have a 238E running on my layout these days. Picked it up at a TCA show, seller gave me a great price because it wasn't running. Just cleaned it, and put in new brushes, and I can't believe how smooth this runs! Whistles strong too.
Steve, what was the reason you used a Marx motor over a Lionel? easier fit, had one in stock?
Thanks.
Dave
Had a couple of new OEM Marx 333 smoking motors in the drawer. Someone gave me the shell.

Anybody run the Lionel clockwork version of the Torpedo?
