I have a nephew-in-law (if there is such an animal) who lives near Blakeslee, Pennsylvania. who has an early 50's Lionel train set that belonged to his mother. Now that he has a 2 year old toddler, he decided to get it up and running this Christmas. I sent him an oval of fastrack and he has it going this year, much to the delight of the young one. However, he says it isn't running real good and was thinking of replacing the engine. My suggestion was to take it in to a hobby shop and have the thing cleaned, lubed and tuned up instead of trying to find a replacement.

So here is the question: Any thoughts on a good place that I can suggest he have this work done?

I am from the Scranton Area, which is very close to the Poconos. I would suggest possible seeing if Walters Hardware in Wilkes-Barre maybe able to fix it. They seem to have a good service and are very nice. One mentioned the Pittston Train Shop, which is not a bad idea either. I am not sure if Walters or Pittston Train Shop are authorized lionel repair techs or not.
