Hey Members, I've been fantasizing about what my layout will look like with my trains parked for service inside of my roundhouse which of course is connected to a turntable. I'm about to start ordering my rolling stock very soon and I have my steam engines (6) on my carpet central layout. I'm mentally projecting my layouts appearance with my steam locomotives in their stalls, my diesel locomotives also and a collection of both types parked for service together. If anyone has any pictures of their steam or diesels at their roundhouses, I sure would appreciate some photos for future reference and ideas. Thanks as always, MARSHELANGELO

Search for posts by Laidoffsick, Rich (Korber), and Dennis Brennan, and you should find a lot. Laidoffsick has several videos that are quite good.
I'm interested in these pictures also. I'm at the point of starting the same project.
Same here. Very interested to see pictures of completed roundhouses especially details in and around them.
This will be an area of focus on our club layout this year. Other than the location of the turntable and roundhouse, everything else in this picture is just temporary.

Just as a point of reference, MOST if not all proto shots of a roundhouse all you will see is the tail-end of the tenders. The WIDE spot in each stall is where they work on the engines. So while it's cool to see all those boiler fronts, the guys in the roundhouse would not be to happy! Russ
Eliot Schers layout that was recently dismantled.
Here's one from the club. The roundhouse is a scratch build by Dave O'Connor and features LED lighting and an exhaust fan to get the smoke out. The turntable is a Ross 33" with the step changed from 7.5 to 10 degrees.

Ogre Modeling is offering Hanging LED pan lighting for use in roundhouses similar to those posted. Depending on length of the "hang" we offer two: one that is between 2 1/2 -3 inches that is bendable, and one the does not bend but is only 1/2 inch in length. With the bridge rectifier assembly which is included, you connect 4 such lamp assemblies, and operate at 6-19 volts ac/dc. For close-ups, check out ogremodeling, llc on the forum.
These are not Ogre lights that are pictured, but if you check out Mercer Junction posts, Dave has installed Ogre Lighting in his Roundhouse and steel mill facility. If interested go to the landing page and contact me Ogremodeling.com
John we put 80 lights inside the RH including the 4 that are outside. I don't think OGRE had released their kits when we started this project. We used 3mm flat top, wide angle LED's, inside if Plastruct lamp shades.
I did a "How To" on our RH lighting HERE
I have been looking for some LED lighting in form of yard lights, or lamp post that would work around the engine facility. There just doesn't seem to be anything out there except for the OGRE kits. I want something that I can attach to wood poles like you would find back in the 40's and 50's, but not a "street" light.
Back to the OP from MARSHELANGELO:
We don't really mix steam and diesel in and around the RH, only because we have a separate building for the diesels. The diesel building will hold 7 engines in and outside of the building. The RH will hold 7 inside (we can put articulated engines in every stall) and there is 8 storage tracks outside the RH, 4 on each side.
