To all Modern Era Standard Gauge (MESG) enthusiasts attending Trainfest 2016 in Milwaukee, in honor of my departed friend Arno Baars, who created the MESG category, I will be running for the first time on a SGMA layout a unique MESG locomotive by Pierre Maurer, who converted a handful of McCoy E2s into CMStP&P EP-3s, as pictured below.  Before and after its run, the EP-3 will be on display on top of the layout's entrance bridge.  Come see it and share your favorite stories about Arno Baars with the SGMA members operating the layout.

Cool engine!   Would love to be there to see it run. Hopefully we'll see some video's of the event.

As in the past, SGMA plans to take a video of our Trainfest 2016 layout in operation.  I will ensure that a link to that video is posted here.

Chris,

I agree.  SGMA needs to attend a show in the Boston/New England area in the future!

Any suggestions as to which show(s) SGMA should try to attend?

SGMA has been a waiting list for the Big E in Springfield Ma. for over 5 years. We get zero response from them. Our group is supposed to get priority being a display group and a non profit. I attended the show last year and there was plenty of room for more displays. I stopped at there office to introduce myself and they did not even know who I should contact in person. No application from me this year.

Chris,

Based on Jim's comments above, it appears to me that you might be able to help clear the path for SGMA to attend the Big E show in Springfield, MA by tracking down and contacting that shows management and asking them why they haven't approved SGMA's attendance at the Springfield show.

As I recall, the Springfield show is in the dead of winter so driving to/from the show could present problems for east coast SGMA members when snow and bad weather are factors particularly since members routinely require trailers to haul their large SGMA modules.  With this in mind, what 2-day show(s) would you recommend that occur in the Boston/New England area during the warmer months?

Bob

As a long time Trainfest visitor and exhibitor (TCA Midwest Division), I can say that the SGMA group always puts on a great show. I have said for a long time, if I was not so heavy into O gauge when MTH starting banging out all the cool standard gauge stuff, I probably would have ended up in standard gauge.

The SGMA guys seem to do it right. Looking forward to seeing you guys again in a couple of weeks.

Charlie,

SGMA will be located in the Northwest corner of the Expo Hall this year.  When you visit SGMA's layout, please ask for me as I would enjoy meeting and talking with you.

Hello Bob

I've never been to train-fest but hoping to come up this year ... only modern era standard gauge ? or ?  A JAD Hiawatha tying  in with Milwaukee? ..

Thank you Carey

Carey,

You absolutely must come to "Trainfest".  For my money, it's the best train show in the country!  If you come, I know you will agree!

This year Trainfest is celebrating the Milwaukee Road.  That works for me as all I collect is Milwaukee Road.

I had already planned to bring several Modern Era Standard Gauge trains in honor of my departed friend Arno Baars.  I will add a JAD Hiawatha locomotive to the list.  This year, however, I will have the JAD Hiawatha locomotive pulling some extra special and very rare MESG Jerry Brown Hiawatha passenger cars!   Arno told me that Jerry made only 5 sets of Hiawatha cars.

I look forward to meeting and talking to you!

Hello Bob

Look forward to meeting you at train fest ...   Jerry Brown does beautiful work ....never knew about the Hiawatha's he did ....    Speaking of Hiawatha's..do you know how many Lionel made of the big  Hudson set in 2001  ? ...     Very sad Arno is not with us to  answer all the modern era questions .

For Blue Comets request of a JAD Hiawatha in action ( if only on a circle ) here you go .  ( Randall Hudson on the outside...castings 1929  built to 1 gauge ) .

Cheers Carey
