Looking for how many variations of the Lionel 259e are out there? I have one, Steve Eastman, Gene Maag and Brian Liesberg have some.  Do others?  Let's see them. They don't have to be yours; just help us find them.

This engine is so customizable, affordable and classic.  Lionel made several variations and there are a variety of tenders as well.

Let's have fun!  Here is my partially finished one...

Marx, but it looks close...

I see lots of customized Marx engines out there.  Some are pretty outrageous with decals and detail.  They are also very affordable and run great. I have the Nickel Plate Road set, and it runs great.  I haven't customized it though, because it was in nice condition.

I didn't like how my silver air tanks and piping looked, so I repainted it.  I made the air tanks black to match the frame and painted the rest red to match the boiler.  I used my paint oven this time, and things worked better.  I think my black paint is old though, and not curing well.  The red dried hard as a rock.  The black is still sticky.

Are you sure the black paint is enamel paint?

Also, not to be a nit picker or anything, but your driving rods are on upside down.

It's Rustoleum 2x Ultra Cover, but it doesn't actually say 'enamel'.  The red paint is the same brand, but it is much thinner coming out of the can.  If I was mixing it myself, I would say the red had been thinned with more acetone.

Guess I should have checked the drivers...   Thanks.

How long did you bake the paint for? I usually do 25- 30 minutes.

About a half hour.  I am going to try a new can on the next engines I do.  They are under $4, so no big deal.  I read that there are variations in production runs sometimes.  Maybe this was just a bad batch.

Thanks,

George
