I have a small section of track on my Christmas layout that I ran a bump and go trolley on.  this year I would like to use a conventional 0-4-0 pushing & pulling a pass car.  I would like to have a active signal at each end.  Can someone provide the data & ideas as to what I need to do this.  Are modern ready to use components available?  thanks lion Vic

Here is a thread on the Dallee Stop and Go.  There is a more advanced system with more parts that also does a station stop.   Basic requirement is about 12' of track and (2ft) sensing zones at either end.  We (Fort Pitt High Railers) got it to work in 8ft

It requires a trolley that operates. Forward/Neutral/Reverse/Neutral.............

Here is a link to the PDF instructions including wiring diagrams.

Once set up and operating, this back and forth trolley system operated for entire Train shows with out any adjustments. We destroyed a bump and go trolley just about every train show.   Mike CT
