Posi-tap no crimp connectors

Illegal by ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) electrical standards if that tells you anything. Interesting though. I wouldn't use them.

I used a lot of them a couple of years ago and they worked fine.

IIRC, they are available in several different colors to accommodate different wire gauges.

For a model train layout they should be fine.

I have seen this on-line and was thinking about using them for when I built my layout. They seem like they would keep everything nice and neat.

Thanks to all for your posts so far.  I had this product bookmarked and had originally learned about them from some train forum...but I can not recall which one (did a search on this forum and did not come up with any posts).  I have an opportunity to post Christmas gift wishes, and thought about posting these.  They do seem easy to use.  As to their use in a water environment, I have no interest in that, but the website does list a separate product, Posi-Tite Water Connector, and indicates it meets or exceeds specs by SAE/USCAR-2 5.6.5 Submersion Test...whatever that means.

I used them on my Harley-Davidson Electra-Glide to install many optional features:  cruise control, CB radio, I-Pod, a complete stereo system, etc.

Needless to say, a Harley is far from an ideal operational environment for wire connections given the notorious vibration and exposure to water; i.e. riding in rain, overnight parking when it rains, washing the bike, and, etc.  Despite the hostile environment, the posi-taps I used never failed or created a problem.

Bottom line:  I'd have no reluctance to use them for a model train layout and, I used them last year when I installed my Christmas tree layout.

I have no experience with the watertight product you mentioned.

PS:  Use the Posi-tap appropriate for the wire gauge you are using.

No, that doesn't tell me anything. Would you provide a copy of the document? It appears the electrical standards are outdated and have not been updated in some time.

We are not discussing a marine application here. Your statement tells that me you don't understand the application environment.

I have used dozens of them on various size (12-28) wire applications.  They are excellent for tapping bus lines as well as butt splice connections.  Using these as well as Wago nuts speeds up my wiring process.  Once I'm satisfied with the wire lengths and trims I hot glue them to the bottom of the table.  Easy to pop off should you need make a wiring change.  JMHO.

I used them extensively for getting power to my track, and I have no dead spots attributable to them.

I have used them extensively on my old layout and performed with a failure for years. I plan to use them again for the new layout. Not sure how yachting and toy train layouts are compatible......just make sure to buy the right ones for the gage wire you are using.

There have been a few threads here on these in the last few years. I don't recall reading any negatives from the folks that had used them. I have not yet used them, but I do plan to give them a try sometime. I have used some of the Wago connectors with no problems. As others have said above, I'm sure proper size for wire used is key to a good installation.

Maybe the spelling or the way it's phrased is causing trouble with the searches? The OGR forum is where I learned of these as I have many other things since joining. Searching can be difficult though.

I used them for all my power drops on my layout.  They are a great product!
