Postwar Lionel #60 Trolley Not Reversing

After double checking that the slide plate is indeed making contact on both sets of field winding contacts, the easiest thing to do is to reverse the field windings on the contact plate, and see if the motor runs on the other field winding. If it does run, recheck the slide and contact plate. If it does not run, then you know the second field winding may be bad.

i have had the same thing happen with a gang car of mine.  What was happens ing is when it hit the bumper to switch directions it would stop and not go the other direction so I took a thick piece of double sided tape and put it inside of the bumper (between the frame and the bumper on the bumper). When the bumper hits the thick tape keeps it from the bumper going beyond the contact points.  Try it and see if it works.  I did this two years ago and it is running great.

Thanks for the input.  Turns out the wire on the field winding was broken.  I unwound the field winding coil, left a tail to solder to the armature tab and rewound the coil.  On soldering everything back together, the trolley is running just fine.
