Hi all.  I purchased a "mutt" tender with a #1666 engine.  The tender says 2235w on the bottom but it has postwar trucks . There is a silver drawbar with a round hole in it, not the normal drawbar for postwar. As is engine and tender do not couple.  Also...the tender has the normal top grab irons and the normal front and back grab irons.  but there is another set of grab  irons on the engine side of the tender that are on a slight slant so there are a total of 4 on the engine side of the tender.  I figure this was put together from a few different tenders.  I guess my biggest question is what tender had those 4 sets of grab irons?  and is that drawbar setup from the 2235w pre war tender?   Nothing moved when I bought them but after cleaning and oiling everything works like a top.  With all the knowledge on this forum, I appreciate some answers, thanks.  Joe

What you have is a Prewar 2235, issued around 1938 and typically went with a 225 loco.  It appears that the trucks were swapped to Postwar trucks, with the rear truck having magnetic coupler.  From your photos, it is hard to see what the front truck is, and why the previous owner kept the Prewar drawbar beats me.  If he went to the trouble of converting the trucks to Postwar, why not change the drawbar with the conversion?????  Is it diecast or plastic??

The tender is plastic.  I agree he must have run it with a 225. I bought it from an antique dealer. Paid $47 for engine and tender.  I just liked the tender with those extra 2 grab irons on the engine end.  Confirms what I thought, but I learned something, never knew the 2235 came in plastic.  I will do a little upgrade and get a normal drawbar and just run it with the 1666.  Whistle is nice and loud and engine rums like a top  NOW hahaha  Thanks again  folks.

Well thanks for the info I was looking for.  Never knew it came in plastic! So what I have is a 2235W with postwar trucks.  Maybe I can find a 225E  to go with it.  I figure the tender itself is worth the $47 I paid for the 1666 and tender.

Take a look at this tender on Ebay.

The 2235W tender came in both die cast metal, and plastic.

Your tender looks like a plastic 2235W with it's trucks changed to postwar.

Look at this page for a plastic bodied 2235W tender

It is plastic and I just learned that the 2235 came in plastic also.  I bought it and the 1666 for $47 from an antique dealer so I figure I got a decent deal anyway.  Thanks for the info.
