We just received our new Lionel ZW L transformer to use on one of our club layouts. The A Channel did not work out of the box. The other three produce voltage that responds to movement of the handles. The A channel stys at aa low constant voltage. It is going to be returned to Lionel, but I wondered if anyone else has seen this problem. Some of our members have purchased three ZW Ls and have not had a Problem.

I have never had a moment's problem with mine. Definitely sounds like something where it has to go back.
It will be on its way this week.
I had to return mine after the handles gradually would not respond to the movement. Lionel replaced the whole ZW-L with a new one (prob a repaired one).

Not at all, best transformer we have ever owned. Nothing out there like it.
I had the exact same problem with mine. After getting crucified by a couple of die hard Lionel fans it turned out that it was a defect. Lionel repairs and it has worked perfect ever since. I do like it.
