I have an MTH NY Central steam engine from around 1998. I put in a  sound board, I think it may have been a PS1 back then. I can't remember if it was a PS1 and I don't want to take the shell off of the tender just yet. The train ran great until recently when it just stopped moving. The sounds, chugging, bell, whistle and smoke work fine but the train doesn't run. I tried re-set 18 with my Z4000 and still no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If the sounds make the chug, that means the tender board cycled properly,  So either tether gone bad, or more likely, the solder joints on the engine PCB where the tether plugs in have cracked.  Jiggle tether will engine should be in forward, and it if jumps to move, one or the other is the issue.

2 outer pin joints are motor.  Resolder them, try again.  G

TAKI53,

Barry is absolutely correct, it could be the battery check it 1st, replace it with a BCR and never worry about it again.  If George is correct you have some work to due.

Not with these symptoms.  If it chugs but doesn't move it is out of reset and in a direction.  Lack of movement is a wire or connector issue.  G
