Hi guys!

I thought I'd take a quick moment while I'm in between classes here to post a few pictures of my layout that I've been slowly working on over the past few months.

Ideally I would be done by now, but classes come first

I have a few more photos with the beginnings of formed mountains with newspaper wads. I'll hopefully be able to post those later on today!

  • All of the woodworking supplies
  • A rough rendering of the layout. Some changes were made after this was printed
  • image: All of the pieces to make the sub terrain and terrain come together
  • Watch out... Don't trust me with these power tools!
  • The table top coming together!
  • All of the risers and foam laid down with rough foam outcroppings for the tunnels
  • Another view of the table. Yes that is a Big Boy and yes it runs around the layout ;)

While I wish it was Lionel's Lionmaster, the one I have is the Imperial Railking version with PS3.

It's a good engine, even though I am still working out some kinks with the tender randomly derailing in places. I know it's because of the tight curves and I've seen the drawbar catching on the backside of the engine and causing the tender to jump. It's a bit frustrating.
Hey Sinclair,

The inclines are more or less 4% due to the size of the layout. Anything smaller wouldn't have had enough space to get enough clearance around the layout.

I have found that the incline that begins in the center of the layout and loops around to the girder bridge is closer to 5%, which is a problem that I need to try and fix. I need to experiment with the risers there to see if I can push them back enough to achieve a 4% grade.

My concern is that if I push them back too far, the engines will not have enough clearance under the tunnel/girder bridge in the center of the layout.
