I just received a proto 2.0 diesel and it does not run and I know almost nothing about Proto engines or DCS.  When I start it up conventional  the sounds work great but the engine does not move.  Using a DCS commander in DCS mode, nothing happens even when I hit startup.  Voltages in both cases are ok.  I have tried reset, 1 whistle-3 bell, 1 whistle-5 bell.  I replaced the battery with a 9 volt and nothing different happened.  With the DCS commander in conventional if I change direction the horn sounds continuously until I hit direction again.  Is there anything I can try short of getting new boards which I will not do.

Thanks

Al

For conventional operation make sure the wheels and pickups are clean.  For testing you can use a new 9V alkaline.   For conventional you must have a battery installed.

After cleaning, does it run?  If not try 1W and 5B to get two toots.

For the DCS Commander you still need to add the engine to the DCS before you can start it up.  Read the manual with the DCS Commander to tell you how to add engines.   G

If the battery was low en you added there engine., it most likely don't get added properly.

If you haven't done so since putting in either a fresh, charged, 8.4 volt (not 7.2 volt) rechargeable battery or, alternately, a fresh Alkaline 9 volt battery, delete the engine and then re-add it using one of the aforementioned battery choices.

If the old battery was white, you should have thrown it away.   More information on the engine would be helpful.  You stated you believe the old battery was OK.  Did you put a meter on it under a load?

Was the battery white?

What was the engine number???????

This is a good post as it made up my mind on whether or not I want to keep answering questions.

Barry  I have a good battery in it now.  When I shut down in conventional mode the sound gracefully goes away. The old one was a bit low.  However I cannot delete the engine.  I can not reset.  After I hit reset a number of time  "system" comes on but "factory" never comes up

Yes the old battery was white.  The engine is a Railing Caterpillar engine from the 30-4047-1 set.  On the DCS screen it is engine #1.

Thanks guys
