One of my treasured finds at the April York show was an MTH Virginian Triplex Item number 20-3101-1.  It was on y want list and I was fortunate to find on in the Silver hall.  Unfortunately, the headlight assembly was broken off and the wire to the headlight was severed.  I figured I could just replace the grain of wheat bulb and splice the wires to repair it.  Unfortunately, I have tried a 12 volt bulb and a 14 volt bulb but the resulting light is very dim.  I also tried a 1 1/2 volt bulb but it blew out.

Does anyone know what voltage MTH supplied to the headlight on this engine.

Thanks for the help,

Don

Thank you Stan, Dale H and John for the responses.  I will be on the search for 6 volt grain of wheat bulbs.

Dale, thanks for the suggestion but I do not think LED's look proper in steam engines so I really prefer incandescent bulbs.

John, I did try using a voltmeter and got a reading of something like 24 to 28 volts and knew that could not be correct.

This is a great forum and I really appreciate the wealth of knowledge as well as the willingness to share it.

Happy railroading,

Don
