Have been looking at the various K-Line aluminum sets for awhile now and just noticed that there are two different (K-Line numbers) dome diners in the Union Pacific 'City of Los Angeles' series from what I can tell. One stock number ends in 003 and the other in 007 I think. Did the prototype ever run two diners in the same rain?

Also, did K-Line have a UP dome observation as well?

Are you talking about 18 or 21" cars?

18" cars, NO.

21" cars, YES

The 21" version is the only flat end one made in 3R.  Be forewarned-it demands a premium, IF you find one for sale.

The prototype City of Los Angeles received the domed observations and diners in 1955. There were 5 of each for 5 train sets to cover the schedule. Each train would have a domed observation lounge for sleeping car passengers and a domed diner for club and dining car service. There was also a café lounge car for coach passengers. By late 1956, the UP converted the dome observations to dome lounges for Mid Train service. Observations were eliminated. Only one dome Diner in each train consist.

I have the K-Line 18" City of LA. There is one dome diner and one dome coach, the observation doesn't have a dome. The two car set is 15" and is a baggage car and an RPO car.

Here's what wikipedia has to say about it.

A typical City of Los Angeles train consist around 1955 included:

Do the cars have different names?

It only has one diner, the other dome car is a coach.

I picked up a dome coach on the bay awhile back but the boxes with the two different stock numbers are both labeled 'Diners'. Are they actually the same car with two different stock numbers? Confused....
