Marty - Was there a period with the larger motor prior to Lion Chief?

To be "prototypical," you'd have to continually change the length of the train form 5 to 13-14 cars, depending on the scene.

 

And if you follow the book, you need a 4-6-2.

As for the Lion Chief locomotive, I agree with Tim. Best part of the set now. I had the 2004 locomotive and rebuilt it twice before selling it for parts. There was a large motor GenII version of this locomotive prior to the Lion Chief.
