Question on Lionel 6-12054 Fastrack Operating section

The 6-12054 has removable roadbed edges to permit close placement to accessories. Once the roadbed edge is removed, each side has 2 sets of three electrical terminals, center rail, outer rail and coil. Looks like they are intended to be connectors to some type of trackside accessory. What accessory uses these connectors? They are not mentioned in the instructions.

None have ever been release but I believe that the same terminals are used in the underside of the Fastrack highway flasher section.

My assumption is that Lionel designed it that way for modularity to develop more accessories that could just tap into this format in a cost effective manner.
