Purchased a 4-6-0 loco (3V PS2) that was part of a MTH RTR steam freight passenger set. The traction tire on it is cracked and I want to replace it. The flanged, grooved wheel on only one side of the loco has a traction tire while the flnged grooved wheel on the opposite side has no traction tire.

Since it was used when purchased it, I don't know whether MTH placed a traction tire on only thev one side of the loco or if traction tires were on both sides and the second side one is missing.

My questions are:

Did this loco originally have traction tires on both sides of the loc and if it originally came fitted with a traction tire on only one side is anything to be gained (or lost) by putting a traction tire on both sides of this steam engine?

Yes it originally had them on both sides.  Honestly I run mine without the tires. Unless you are having problems you really don't need them.  And by problems I mean slipping of the drive wheels.

The only thing that will be possibly gained by putting a tire on both sides is it may even out an every so slight lean to the locomotive.
