Anyone have a 6-14083 Pedestrian Walkover bridge?   What is the maximum open span area that trains can pass through? Catalog dimension says 7" but is that to top railing of bridge or to bottom underpass floor of bridge?  What is the length of the horizontal walkover bridge span?  Will the lowest part where it angle down to meet the staircase clear engines and cars, or do the trains have to stay centered under the horizontal walkover bridge section?

Reason I ask, is I need to create an extra long walkover (two walkover bridges spliced midsection) to reach over from one side of tracks to new area and my tracks aren't spaced the normal distance apart.  Went to Lionel website but can't find any dimensioned drawings other than the stated 14 x 13 x 7 inch footprint.

Appreciate any dimension help.

Thanks SooLine for the pictures and dimensions.  What is the width of the overhead horizontal bridge between where the angle down stairs start?

John,

I think it is wide enough to get two trains through assuming tangent trackage correctly spaced apart .  Don't know how wide the horizontal bridge section is.  My application will have to basically span four tracks to get from one side of city to other side, even though there are two tracks but widely spaced, plus some open ditch areas on both sides before there is terra firma to place the staircase landings

Soo Line, Alan:

Thanks for all this excellent info.  Would you please also let us know the width of each base at the foot of staircases (i.e., the width of the faux concrete platforms) ?

If the total width is 14" and you're saying that the inside distance between the staircases is 11-3/8", that would leave 2-5/8" left over.  That would imply that each staircase platform/sidewalk area is 1-5/16" wide.  That doesn't seem right. They look wider in the photos.

I'm also trying to figure out where this might go on a layout, so your help is much appreciated.

Very nice.

I was wondering can it be constructed  to span across three section tracks ?

In the picture above its looks like it span only across two tracks.

Thanks, John

Yes it can. I have the 6-14082(w/speed sensor). See attached photos.

So it can accommodate three tracks though have to be careful that cars don't hit against sides or angled staircase.  Noticed you have unit raised on some substrate I assume to allow more clearance.

I cut up 2 crossovers. I cut one in the middle and cut the center section out of the other crossover. I added the center section to the crossover that I cut in the middle. I matched the sides and then glued a piece of styrene plastic strip under the walkway. That piece runs the full length of the crossover to give it a little strength.

Where did you find them for a reasonable or even list price?

I get that you cut one and pieced another into it.
I was really looking for more of the actual details, like:
1. How did yo do the cuts?
2. What kind of glue did you use.

I will be doing the following to mine:
1. Shorten the crossover section.
2. Remoev one of the stairways on each end.
3. Cut out the straight section at the landing of the removed stairways.
4. Close the open side of the remaining landings.
-   a. I may use the straight sections from the removed stair landings.
-   b. I may use part of the removed upper section.

I used a miter saw for plastic that I purchased at a local hobby shop, I think the brand was Zona

I used Testors plastic glue on all of this, clamped it for about 1 hour, I know, too much time. Now a days you could probably use super glue with the spray accelerator.
