R/C , Track Power & DCS

Stephen, can you tell us more about your project?   It looks like you rigged up a power controller.

Where did you get your RC boards?

Ken I built a Deltang transmiter and wonted an economical set up so I purchased a Deltang 102-22 reciever, and a five doller Chinese 10amp ESC (electronic speed controler) on ebay. I also wonted track power, so I also bought a one doller buck converter and a bridge rectifier. This means polarity  for DC isn't a problem, I think it would run AC to, but haven't tried it yet. Stephen, are you running the engine from both power sources (separately of course)?  If so, did you install a switch that selects one or the other?

I had thought about it, but once I made the switch to BPRC I completely gave up on rail power and all the wiring.

I was at a LHS (Hobbytown USA) yesterday and looked at all the RC stuff they had, hoping to find an inexpensive Rx and ESC, but their prices are not what I consider inexpensive.  HobbyKing may be a better place to look.

The Deltang Rx is a great piece of gear, the Rx65b comes with an ESC built in.  Tony Walsham's (RCS...where you live!) Txs are tops IMO, I have a Tx7k and a Tx3.  I'm thinking about getting a Tx1 ($99A or $74 US).  That's a bit more than the Deltang Tx kit ($39 US) but the Deltang is a kit and has to be assembled.  Tony also sells some inexpensive ESCs and Rxs.

All my steamers are using the Deltang and Tony's gear, but I feel I may go all BlueRail Bluetooth with my diesels.

Bob It might be as well your thinking of going Bluerail, I talked to Tony today and he said Deltang had cut him off and he cant supply the Rx65 anymore, he has some alternatives in the works, but you would have to talk to him to clarify. I mentioned you to him and that you where on the forum, small world indeed, even from half way round the world.

I didn't use battery power at all, just track power. The whole thing was cobbled together as a test peace, but things have changed if I cant get the Deltang RX102-22 receiver, this has select and means when I move from one locomotive on the dial to another the receiver remembers the last command and continuse even though its lost its signal. So you can move from one loco to another, this allows you to have twelve locos on the one transmitter.

As of now no one in Australia can supply Deltang boards etc. Im not to pleased, my transmitter is now redundant. Its possible Deltang is still supplying some of his US dealers. Its not good business thats for sure .   cTr...( Choose the Right )

I really like his Tx3, the case with it's round edges, really fits my hand:

Bob  The Deltang hand controller is much the same dimensionally etc, as you probably know. The R/C is just so easy  to use once set up.

Stephen, Nice and simple, just what I was looking for when I got into this

Not that I'm a tech, but if you notice signal issues when this engine is on the same rails as other DCS engines, you may need to install a choke (inductor).
