Today while checking over an old R type transformer I received from a friend years ago, I found this. One of the copper contacts for the speed control knob was never in the right place. I thought I was hooking it up wrong, as one side would not work. You can see the wear marks on the one side, but no marks where the copper tab should have rubbed on the copper winding on the other side. The tab is bent away and down, it should be bent slightly down like the tab on the left. I suppose maybe the original owner never needed to use more than one control knob, so they never took it in to be repaired.
