Rare Find at the UP Yard

Quite the beauty Matt.  It appears to be in very solid condition.  Anyone know the make and year of build?

My imagination roams at the possibilities....  Private owner to create his/her own mobile home and travel the Americas????

Here is the history/info on the car.  It was recently sold to an unknown buyer by Ozark Mountain Railcars:

 

Built by the Budd Company in 1954 for service on Northern Pacific's "North Coast Limited". Became Burlington Northern #1453 in 1967 and sold to Amtrak in 1971, retired by Amtrak and sold into private ownership. #312 was originally built as a 4 roomette, 4 single bedroom, 4 double bedroom, dome lounge (2 single rooms converted to a kitchen and 2 roomettes removed by current owner to create a master room).  Rebuilding of the car to Amtrak certification has begun and some of the mechanical details include: Good body, both trucks have had a 40 yr inspection, OSSH, disc brakes, D-22 valves, A end frame has a crack but is easily fixable and engineering has already been done, 2-8 ton air conditioning units, rotating end cap bearings, good to great wheels, new rubber gaskets and glass except for tear drop windows in dome, floor heat in bedrooms and dome, new blower motor, folding walls in bedrooms replaced with stationary walls, kitchen (installed by NP), good side sills, side sheeting was removed and reinstalled, 250 gal fuel tank, holding tank, 1/2 of HEP installed, 1/2 of MU and 27 pin installed, main transformer installed, seller has a large quantity of interior hardware.

Might be going to Iowa Pacific.They already have one original NP dome and some full length domes as well. Current run an IC City of New Orleans inspired train.

So if I understood your layout above, this unit now has a Master Bedroom, 2 single bedrooms, 4 double bedrooms, kitchen and a dome lounge area.  And, I assume adequate bathroom/shower facilities.

 

We are talking major party/touring possibilities any where in the Americas.  Can you arrange a trip Matt?

Two nits to pick.  #1.  BN was not created until 1970 so it couldn't have been renumbered in 1967, and #2. It never wore BN number 1453.  While it was to be given that number IF BN's operations were continued beyond Amtrak's inception, it did not receive this number, except on paper.
