Has this ever happened to anybody else?

I just got an email from UPS saying a derailment has caused a delay in the shipping of an order I placed with The Western Depot of California.  I searched but couldn't find any recent news about train derailments since 9-18.  The package was suppose to be delivered today.

I guess with today's technology they really do keep track of just about everything.

I bet that's it.  I saw that, but seeing the auto carriers I figured if anything it was only cars.  But there's cargo vans inside as someone pointed out.

I also have a package coming from CA via USPS, hope that's not on the train too

I was looking at some photos of the 611 wreck near the Dismal Swamp and the destruction of the train/ground/track was unbelievable.  It amazes me just how fast they can get things back running.

I didn't mean the package was on the train that derailed.  That was a pure multi-level autorack train from what I have seen. Rather, the derailment closed the NS mainline through PA for about 14 hours on Saturday and caused other NS traffic to be delayed and or rerouted.  Your package was likely on one of those other trains that were delayed or rerouted.

I had the same thing happen to me maybe 6 months ago. I never figured it out. Tracking showed it arriving in Austin, I think, then a delay due to a train derailment. I don't know what happened but guessed that maybe a train derailed and blocked the entrance, exit to the ups terminal. I thought it was strange and it did make me chuckle, as the parcel delayed did include a train or train items........................
