I managed to snag a Red Comet tinplate loco and tender (Pat's Trains, Wheeling W. VA.), and a set of red 710 passenger cars (Just Trains, Delaware), and a couple of other 710's from Aaron's City Trains, Akron, Ohio.  All this was done from the comfort of my home, without having to venture out to York.

Actually, I would have liked to go to York, but I'm currently less than mobile, in my ability to walk great distances.  Anyway, it was like York week right here at my house.

Turns out, "Just Trains" of Delaware did not actually have the 710 set in stock, even though their website claimed it did.  I bought an additional red 710 to go along with the set that now does not exist.  So, that's extra.  Fortunately, I was able to find and purchase what seems to be the LAST remaining set of 600 series passenger cars for this set from Trainland.

All of this begs me to complain.  If sellers are going to have websites featuring their stock, then they should keep it up-to-date!  Most do, but some don't.  I know that there are some sellers who claim to have stuff to sell based upon manufacturers having stock ready to ship.  There is often a break-down in this type of marketing, and I have been disappointed on more than one occasion when an item is listed as being in stock, when it was not actually available.  Just grousing a bit.

So, I'll soon have my Red Comet set, less baggage car, which is not available anywhere as far as I can tell.  I'll try the one 710 passenger car with the 600 series, but I don't expect it will look right.  Anyone out there need a red 710, brand new?  I did unwrap it just to look at it in person, so, I guess, by some standards it is no longer brand new.  EYES have gazed upon it's splendor, my gawd!

Bob,

I spent the better part of a week reworking a vintage piece for my grand-daughter's set that I restored fifteen years ago.

My point is this. Even though it's a newer repro piece, hang on to it. Remakes of early reproduction pieces are made of even poorer quality materials.

God's Blessings,
