I recently gave a layout to my grandson. I have a couple of old cab1 TMCC engines that will not work under conventional control. They work fine when addressed through cab1 controller on my layout, but nothing on my grandsons transformer controlled layout. Is there a way to remove that control? I thought that if the engine doesn't "sense" a control signal they revert to conventional. Not so here.

I tested the engines on his layout while I was building it in the next room. I will set up a circle of track outside and see. I don't want to disappoint by taking them to his house where the layout now is. When testing they did not share the same power source, but yes the Legacy base was plugged in (in the next room). I didn't know the TMCC signal went through the air, just through the common track connected. But it makes sense as my LCS wireless signal sometimes connects to my iPad two floors away. Will let you know, Thanks

The TMCC signal and Legacy signal does both, it travels through the air and through the house wiring.

Just unplug the base like Marty E suggested and test on the grandsons layout or with a transformer on a circle of track. No need to go outside. it may still get signal.
