At least I now know I am not alone in my crusade.

I stopped using IE long ago. It just isn't as good as Chrome of Firefox.

If you want to post photos here get rid of your internet explorer and go to google chrome or Mozilla.

Microsoft will not discontinue IE,

 

they will rename it to try to dupe us into using it again

That was funny, some folks really know how to get their point across. Got a kick out of it even though I do use IE.

Bryan, I actually got started on the internet with Netscape!

In the Information Technology Sector we refer to it as "Internet Destroyer".

So did I. Used Netscape for years. Use Firefox and Chrome now. IE-11 has become a sore subject over here right now because of compatibility issues. I've been going back and forth with one of our vendors because their system runs under IE-9. It didn't help that IE-10 and IE-11 were released less than a year apart. Compatibility view works better under IE-11 than it did under IE-10.     Testing all of the sites my users use on a regular basis has resurrected my alternate evil persona of "Darth Systemus -- Malevolent Systems Administrator". Let's just say that IT marketing reps in the area are at great risk right now.

I work for a large technology company and manage the site where all our clients come for product support.  As of June 2014 Internet Explorer accounts for 45% of total site visits.  IE is not going away anytime soon. The other 55% is all other browsers including mobile browsers.           

Just because it is the most popular doesn't make it better. From a picture quality point of view, Sony's Betamax was better than JVC's VHS, and we all know how that turned out.

 

And I would bet that Microsoft is VERY worried about that 45% number. 10 years ago it was 90%.

 

All week our IT folks have been in a tizzy because the Air Force NOSC pushed IE11 out to our base. Trouble is enough systems are not compatible with it here that they are having to go around and install IE8 over it.

Wow Rich, you’re very passionate about this - more than I thought.  I was just sighting pure metrics to say many corporations still use IE and it has a large user base - I was not implying it is better than/equal to/or worse than any other browser.  

 

And I agree MS is probably very worried.  

I don't think the petition is necessary. Microsoft has been doing a great job of killing Internet Explorer.
Judging by the number of sites that are incompatible with IE, I'd guess that many have given up on IE. Folks are going to get tired of the problems, and switch to something else.

Well, for us Lynx users Mosaic was for the fancy boys.

Made the same mistake where I work. Only I did the upgrade voluntarily (d'oh!). Later the IT folks said yeah we added it to the company app store but then found out later nothing works with it. Go back to IE8 . . .
