Wow, I had to play the tape twice because I couldn't believe it!

This morning when Rich appealed for us to help him with identyfing parts of the 1990s O Gauge Railroading VHS video series, I dug out one of mine from the spring of 1995.

The Prototype Diesel Operations segment caught my attention. Hosting the segment was none other than Rich Melvin, and I have to say he really hasn't aged much.

His tour of an Ohio Central Geep was very informative and interesting. When he climbed back out of the cab and around to the front of the locomotive he was explaining how the hoses and cables connected from one unit to the next. Then I heard the unthinkable.

Rich used the phrase "lash up", not once but twice, when describing how the locomotives operated in MU fashion.

It's going to take me a while to get over this, and you still have my utmost respect Rich, but I had to share this with the forum.

Maybe Rich was hired to do that job, and stuck to the script like a true professional. Than he went home and kicked his dog.

Give that man a cigar.

This was done back in the mid-90s when OGR was a customer of my video production company. Yes, I was hired to do this and we had a script. And yes, I hated saying it, even back then, but the customer is always right. But I didn't kick the dog...

When I capture that video into the MAC next week, I think I'll "bleep" the word. How's that?

The REAL surprise here that no one has yet commented on is that the 20+ year old tape played and Terry still has a functioning VHS machine!

Thanks for being a good sport Rich!

The tape played well, although it seems like it had only about 65 lines of resolution. Your presentation was well done and it was neat to go back and see some of the videos I grew up with (as a 40 year old).

I too, have several functioning VHS machines and tapes that are certainly over 20 years old... everything still plays and works fine.

Meanwhile I've had one or two DVD players that have bitten the dust. (I pull these apart and salvage every little screw, part and component I think I can use, including the DC motors which ironically still work).

Interesting comparison that I also have trains more than 20 years old - sort of like VHS players that aren't as nice or advanced as a DVD player - and yet they all still work just fine too.
