ross 11 degree v atlas 072 Y

Ross 11 degree wye is 5.5 degrees per leg. It's extremely shallow.
The atlas wye is half an 072 curve to each leg. Roughly 11.25 degrees.
Not interchangeable at all. Ross makes a 22 degree wye too, but I don't think it's the same footprint as the atlas one

One is an excellent product (Ross) and the other ...... well lets just say I ripped all 25 of mine out and replaced them with Ross over 8 years ago and have not had one problem.

 

Ross is the way to go!!!!

The link to the Ross switch shows a turnout with one tangent track and one diverging track. 

The Atlas is a Y turnout with both tracks curving at O72.

at first I agreed.  however our club runs 6 days a week an average or 5 hours a day. with the ross being a hollow track we are having a wear through issue. and the nails loose there holding power.  I understand the ross's have a warranty. just trying to get some other options.

in this spot on our layout the only option appears to be a ross.

Frankly, I find it hard to believe that you are wearing through the metal. I had a public display layout years ago that ran double those hours, and never wore out the metal. Plastic frog points were a different story.

 

Your original comparison was really apples and oranges. There are two issues at play, geometry and quality. Unless you plan to re-lay the area around the switch, maybe a couple feet on all ends, you'll need to use the same shape switch.

Didn't/hasn't atlas made some improvements in their switches lately?  Maybe it's been since they had to find another maker for them but I thought I read that some of the old issues had been eliminated.

If they really wearing through the rail, they could just get a section of Atlas flex and fashion a new segment to replace the worn part. It is a lot less work than replacing the whole switch.

 

Hand laying is kind of a foreign concept to most 3 railers. It's not that difficult in O, and if you think it is, try it in N.

Your link in the OP to the Ross 11 degree is to their standard switch, not one of their wyes.

 

Below is a graphic of the Atlas and Ross wyes.  The Ross standard wye (5.5 degrees each direction, 11 degrees total), which I believe you have, is completely different than the Atlas O72 wye.  As Elliot stated, you will need to redo your trackage if you want an atlas switch.

 

If you actually have the Ross O72 wye, it might work without too much trouble.  However, I'd stay with the Ross switch because I think it is a better switch, especially for a display layout, even if you have to replace it ever decade or so.
