PRRran,

I really am a fan of the Williams models. Look through the whole thread and you will see several. I have the one that Craig posted, a 4935 5 stripe green and another 4935 that is much darker with True Sounds.

I will say the for pulling the MTH and Lionel are at the top. The Weaver is very good, and the Williams, while still good is least powerful. The plastic carbody is the difference. However, on level grades, it's not an issue and on inclines, I've double headed mine in coventional and then the issue is gone!

Bachmann has also done us a favor and made sure all the current releases have prototypical numbers for the paint scheme. That matters to rivet counters like me ... Big Grin

I'm glad that Bachmann fixed the numbers because that bugged me too. Do you know if they will have Old Rivits in Conrail blue with the correct 4800?

And is there any hope of adding interior lighting and engineer figures to the Williams?

Chessie Man - this is the Weaver model. It is one of 75 I believe, but that doesn't seem to matter any more. I got it very inexpensively and I think the Weaver model has beautiful lines. They are very, very solid runners even if they lack command and sound. These are very worthy of an upgrade though.

I also need to correct my statement above - it was the 4880 not the 4881 that was painted in this color as well. Back to fix that!

Also - don't miss the obscure Weaver Pink one ..... Eek

Alan - that's certainly one HAPPY 4876 now! Call me crazy, but this scheme was the first GG1 scheme I clearly have a picture of and kind of like it .... ?

Like I said - crazy.

And PRRfan - here is a thread Dominic posted in the 3RS forum with the new Bachmann road numbers. No engineer figure this year, but who knows what they have planned down the road. Honestly there is so much room in this carbody that you could glue your own engineer to the inside and have plenty of room to spare for upgrades down the road.

Based on your picture - more to the point, we all need a TYCO GG1 in McGinnis colors. The normally scale HO folk have gotten away with this a few times - i.e. the Penn Line Cast McGinness GG1 and the IHC (I'll paint anything on a locomotive to get a sale!) version did it too!

One of the Gs in this photo is the PRR version of TYCO's rather unique offering.

That last picture is amazing. Let me guess at this one.
The scenario is that you cannot stop buying GG-1's. You have a fantasy that you buy all of the GG-1's in every scale ever produced.

Eliot,

You nailed it to there. I include the 1:1 versions in that statement. At least there are only 17 or so of those around these days. That's a manageable number .... right .... ?!?

The sad thing is that this photo is out of date. I've got 7 more scale 0 ones on the roster now ... Eek

See you at York

Problem ? Confused

Should I ever perceive a problem, do you have a number for this therapist? Wink

No York for me this year. Frown Hopefully next year AFTER I get done helping with the TCA national. This is especially disappointing as my uncle lives only 45 minutes from York, and I still have not made a single one. He's been going for over 20 years ....

Have you had a chance to look at Kato's new G in N Scale? It is incredible. Your Arnold Rapido G's will never look the same again. I'll be getting one but it will be some time while my railroad accumulates the requisite funds.

Bob

Bob,

I saw the preview on it, but I have not seen the actual model. I'll probably end up with one soon too. Not doing much, if any N scale these days, but it is still a G!

Thanks

Chessie Man - enjoy it! The sound on it is really quite amazing. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed mine. Now to just track down a PC version on this one .....

Yes, I saw that, too !!!     However, I'm still hoping to see a Lionel Legacy GG1 (5 stripe Tuscan)       ... in my lifetime.   Smile

But, you better hurry up Mr. C.,  'cause my lifetime clock ain't goin' backward !!!

I just gave my new model the once over and find that it is a very nice model. It's darker than the photo, almost black in appearance. Now if I could just find a green 5-stripe model to go with it . . .

Chessie,

Tip of the hat - you got me Smile I lightened the photo in photoshop to bring out some of the detail. Oops
Chessie,

Thanks for that info. I didn't quite have the $$$ to do it right now anyway, but at a little less than $200, I am very happy with the Weaver silver version. I'll plan on holding on to that one.

On a side note, one of my Williams is now scheduled for the paint shop to correct the number and do some weathering to. Hope to have something to show in a few weeks!

After following this thread I became enthused about owning a GG-1 and bought the silver JLC (but at the $650 price). I have one of the Williams on order. Just found a deal on the Lionel congressional streamer 4-pack at a LHS Billman told me about - $250 (LHS was stuck with them after someone ordered and then realized they required min. 54" radius).

What is surprising is looking at the photos, all look the same at first glance then you start noticing the smaller details.

The thing that I notice is that there is quite a bit of difference in the body contours near the ends. Which one do you think is closest to being correct?

I just noticed that the Williams windsheild slants more than the others. I also noticed that the MTH cab roof is taller over the nose sections that Weaver, Lionel and Williams. Also, the MTH cab windows appear to be too small.
