Great to see this topic again. I looked up artwork for the Firefly/Serenity train and decided in my opinion the proportions were all wrong to do in O gauge.
I love seeing the home made and bashed items folks come up with for sci-fi themes.

I really like the look of Snowpiercer...
I'd buy one if it was made !

That Snowpiercer train looks like it could be a modern/future Polar Express in that picture. Looks like the boy in his robe in front as he looks the train over as it sits in the road in front of his house.
I love that this one turned up again. I would love a Tyco Turbo Train blown up to O scale.
Here is another blast from Future Pasts. The apparently horrible TV show called Supertrain. The model was sold to defray some of the costs in an issue of MR.
It was a good looking model though. Wide Gauge track apparently.
Silver Lake posted:
Kids of all ages would like that. The HO versions had magne-traction and track with steel rails to hold the curves at amazing speeds.
As shown in the video the Tyco Turbo DID work.
BUT it would only run on steel track as it used big magnets to create down force AND traction. Try and run it on NS rack and it derails quick.
There was another version that ran on slot car track!!
Silver Lake posted:I love the idea and I once had a futuristic layout in a utility trailer. I have posted these on here before but....
Here is my future layout. It was based on ideas of the future that never quite panned out. There were stategically placed mirrors that reflected up and down as well as down the "street". There were 2300 or so figures remade from repainted and reposed green army men I play loose with scale but they are about 1/32. The walkways were thick so there were figures top and bottom so they could reflect in the up/down mirrors. Portable DVD players played Times Square style video ads I made and the whole thig was viewed through one way mirror portals. The track was a figure 8 as was the general open space reflected in the mirrors. I also did some Rokenbok Monorail repaint stuff.
I would be interested in seeing what more people did in this area.
I love remembering the future.
Simply Awesome! Love it!
Does anyone have any links to share for companies that make futuristic buildings and other Sci Fi items?
Thanks

I can give you a few, but if you look for "Sci-Fi Wargaming terrain" you'll find alot of options. The common wargaming scale 28mm (1/56) is technically too small for O, but so much of it is relatively scale neutral that it's probably the best place to start and by far the most plentiful.
Here's a list of places that do MDF based terrain. http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki...DF_Scenery_Suppliers
Here's some others,
http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com aLot of this stuff is even closer to O, being made for 32-34mm figures. Cool sci-fi civilian vehicles too.

The game "Infinity" has a very shiny futuristic look and is quite popular. Many companies produce terrain for the game. Here's a few. https://www.reddit.com/r/Infin...r_a_list_of_terrain/
I know I'm missing many, but that should get you on the right path.

Well, it's finally done! It's not motorized (though maybe someday...) and the painting and weathering is definitely more "quick-and-dirty" wargaming style than proper realisim, but I'm pretty darn proud of it.
I give you the Sci-Fi Train!
I'm pretty stoked at how it turned out even though there were some significant examples of Murphy's Law along the way.
Lots more pics of every car and processes described here:

Pretty cool!
Cool, very Tau like!
Thanks AMCDave!
Daniel,
That's good to hear. I deliberately made it pretty genre neutral. I hope to use it in games with a more shiny style (think Tau/Inifinity/Mecha) and also more gritty settings like 40k and post apoc.
After all the prep, the Sci-fi train made it's public debut at this year's Mech Attack battle at Adepticon. At the risk of defaulting to a much-overused term, it was Epic.
The addition of Flying units and the elevated Train elements were very well recieved and really added to the drama of the game.
All 6 player spots were filled and everyone had a great time.
Full After action report and tons of pics at the blog. Additional pics of the trains (what you all really want to see) are at the bottom of the blog post.

Hmmm. You could find or kitbash a Japanese style Hudson steam locomotive, put "999" on the front. Put some heavyweight coaches behind it, and have some steep grades leading in and out of a train station...
Voila! Galaxy Express! Future/sci-fi and at many stops, post apocalyptic.
Wow!
Peter
Thanks Peter!
Greg,
I hadn't contemplated steam or anime-space-steam for my setup, but I suppose an overly large steam engine (maybe toybash together two oversized toys?) would look suitably post apoc or Sci-fi.
I feel like I've seen that anime before. Did it go by another name as well?

There were a number of different series and movies. There was also another series with a similar concept of trains in space also created by Leiji Masumoto called "The Galaxy Railways". The "star" locomotive in that looked like a UP 4-8-8-4 that they call "big one" and pulls a highly wheaponized train.
There are also some futuristic looking passenger trains.
Both take place in vaguely the same universe with other Leiji series, like Captian Harlock.
Something similar but different - a lot of items on this Captain Nemo-ish steampunk micro layout (including the structure of it) were made for a "paper layout" challenge. Check out the "tin man" locomotive.

Good to know, I think that Galaxy Railways might have been the one I saw.

Wow, that is lovely. Love all the scatchbuilt stuff and humorous things going on there, and all in paper no less!
