Wonder if in today's world of electronics,  there couldn't be an electronic tether for pet and child to warn you if you were some distance away or had not recently checked pet or child.

The person would have to buy and use it.
Some cars are starting to come with sensors for left children.
As a society, have we really become that stupid?

Leaving a child alone in a vehicle during any weather at any time should be a felony  in every state.

Unfortunately this type of incident is not uncommon here in Georgia where the summer heat gets pretty high.

I do  not know what the law is in Georgia.  I witnessed an incident 2 years ago in a mall parking lot where someone had left their dog in a locked car and no open windows.  This was in the summer.

As I was walking towards my car I heard some arguing  across from where I was parked.  I then noticed some broken glass on the ground and 2 men arguing.  One was an older man with his wife and the other was a young guy. Turns out the older guy had broken the window to get the dog some relief.

Apparently the police had already been called and they pulled in at about the time I was there.  I couldn't quite catch the conversion the cop was having with the 2 guys, but the young guy must have said something to the cop because the next I saw was this guy on the ground getting handcuffed.

Don't know the outcome of the whole thing but at least I know this guy had a very bad day or so.

There just is no cure for stupid.

I actively raised two children without ever leaving them alone in a vehicle, but I don't know that such a law would be a good idea.
Which would be worse? Leaving a child in a locked car with ventilation or air conditioning in a safe location and mild weather for a couple of minutes, or leaving a child alone at home for a much longer period while mommy or daddy ran out to the store? (Never did that either). That is what would happen.

Here, locally, more than once, people have left kids in unlocked, running cars at gas pumps, to run into a quickie market, and heard their tires squealing as vehicle and kid sped off with some perp at the wheel . In those, car was abandoned with kid intact. But when the cops grabbed them, they made the nightly news for kidnapping, and got a longer stay in the taxpayer motel. Opportunist car thieves do not seem able to drive, for here they wreck a lot of them, and nobody would want their kid or pet getting one of those rides.

It seems that if there is not "an app for that" for some people, they lose brain functionality, so unfortunately, the answer seems to be yes.
