I think shipping by UPS and Fedex is reliable and fast.  I try not to use USPS but I don't think it is that bad.  Most problems I have had are "user error": I provide a nine-digit zip-code but many senders do not use it, and/or they leave of the "Drive" on my street name, etc., or spell it as two rather than one word, or spell my town "Cary" (NC) as Carry, or Kary even.  One left off the state completely.  Luckily the five figit Zip got it here.

So when I buy from an auction site or an individual, I assume that if I get it, it will arrive, when it arrives.  Still, I have pretty good luck . . .

In my experience a few outstanding retailers send and ship much more reliably than others.  I've been waiting for two weeks now for one supplier to get me one thing I wanted (I expected this but they were only only source of this particular item).  Pat's Train and Charlie Nassau are the quickest and most reliable in my experience.  I pick low cost shipping options with either and still get the stuff, reliably, in three to four days, sometimes two.  M. B. Klein used to be awesome - paying just normal shipping, if I ordered by noon, it would go out that day and I would get the item in two days: the UPS and FedEx routes between Baltimore and NC are fast.  Once I received an item in only 22 hours from the time I ordered.  But lately Klein has been taking two to five days internally to "process" the order internally, although UPS seems as fast as even, making them often take a full week. Still, I can live with even that.

And of course there is Amazon, with free delivery second day for  Prime customers.  I never worry about delivery with them.  I know I've done done at least 2,000 orders in the past ten years (we order even breakfast cereal and paper towels, etc. from them) and I recall only one instance of a problem.

The advantage of FedEx over UPS is if noone is home during the day and don't want your parcel left on your doorstep, you can go online and have your package left at a FedEx Office store which many are open 24 hours and pick it up anytime. UPS Charges $5.00 if you choose to have it delivered to a UPS Store. UPS don't charge if you have it left at will call in there depot but they are usually only open till 7pm. Plus FedEx Home delivery, delivers on Saturday.

Yup!  I can watch them throw packages 10-20' onto the porch and then run to the truck and gun it down the driveway.   They reliably get it on the porch and run fast.

Yes.  Usually ID-10-T user errors are involved,
