Hello,

I just got a 22- series (scale wheels, fixed pilot) Premier diesel locomotive. I set the switches to 3 rail and DCS that are located in the top part of engine.  No matter what, the engine trips the transformer when I turn the power on.  Even tried changing the switch settings.

Any ideas what to try?  Am I missing something?  I thought the engine will not trip the transformer if the switches are not set right.  At least I think this is what happened on other engines.  This is the first 22- series engine I have owned.

It came with scale wheels.  I am running on 3 rail track.  The only thing I did was to add the rollers to make it run on 3 rail.  The settings are 3 rail and DCS.

I was trying to figure if there is something else I need to do before taking it apart and look for shorted wires and the like.

The part number is 22-20430-2. This is the first 22- series engine in my collection so I don't know if I need to do anything differently than a 20- or 30- engine.

Since this was brand new and never was run, I took it back to the store and it will be shipped back to MTH.  If it was an older engine, I would have opened it up.

I did a spot check as well as the store to see if there was something obvious.  I took an ohmmeter and it was shorted on both trucks.

I really liked the engine and hope to get it back soon.  It was an SD70ACe in EMD demonstrator colors with fixed pilot and scale wheels.  If this works out on my layout, I will try to get more engines like this.
