Smoke 'em if you've got 'em

I'm with you guys. Start the Steamers, Set Smoke to High and Roll out.

When the cloud makes the far side of the room hard to make out, set the smoke to low and keep rolling.

Wife Hates it when I do that but any kids love it and I like it so I shall continue.

I have switched to nicer smelling smoke for her (And always on the Christmas layout).

In the Old Basement it was Coal Fired Steamer and that stuff is strong.

Maybe the smoke regulator died.  They will smoke in a spectacular fashion for a short time when that happens.

Looks like a blown turbo!

That one is just the normal MTH smoke units.   I have a pair of the MTH PRR Centipedes, they do smoke up a storm when you crank them on high!

I'll second the smoke regulator "going". I've experienced the same thing in a steamer, shortly after, there was no smoke.

I don't know that I would run it like that, some folks have mentioned the resistor glowing cherry red. I don't know if thats a good idea in a diesel with a plastic shell.

I'd turn it off and replace the regulator.

I had an MTH diesel with smoke pass through my hands not too long ago. One of the shells was melted above the smoke unit.

We had the regulator in a Legacy 10-wheelers let go, in about 20-30 seconds it had destroyed the PCB for the smoke unit.  It was in a long tunnel when it obviously died, when it came out the smoke was spectacular to say the least, I couldn't get to the power switch fast enough!

The locomotive still stinks like burnt PCB, and all of that has been replaced.

Yep, that sure looks like the AC regulator has gone. You don't want a warped/melted body shell and/or fried board so replace the freakin' little varmint now. 

When you take a break from marching and the Drill Instructor shouts "Smoke 'em if you've got 'em.  Didn't he forget he took them away from you just a week ago when you arrived for Basic Training.
