Ok I have a Question, some say the smoke output will set off smoke detectors, and some say they won't, that it's nothing more than vapor like you have in electronic cigarettes.  So is there one smoke fluid that is manufactured not set off smoke detectors.  I know many many years ago they would set off smoke detectors and were some what on the toxic side.

The reason I ask this is my layout will be in somewhat of a small room, and the smoke detector is right above and to the left of the layout, the ceiling is about 8 ft. High.

Thanks in advance

Kerry

Not too sure about that. In my old PW Lionels there is a very hot heating element in the smoke unit. I have done a lot of experimenting with smoke fluid and make and use my own. Not going to say what I use in it but think there is smoke produced. I really can't find evidence of any oil residue deposited on my layout.  But that is mine, others might behave differently.
