Thanks Pete

Lionel did a great job, the sounds are outstanding.

Thanks ,Alex

Except for that air horn, which doesn't sound like the real one.

Gotta agree with HW on this one.   Lionel gets an A++ for the steam whistle sounds, but that air horn is terrible.  It's that same sick-cow sounding diesel horn I had hoped Lionel retired once and for all.  Perhaps it's the attempt to quill it that drives me nuts, but the air horn on the TMCC w/Railsounds 5 Daylight had a much nicer air horn tone to it.

Although not a show-stopper, that air horn detracts from an otherwise beautiful model (aside from the outrageous $1700 MSRP).

I agree, David. I don't mind the new air horn (aside the rather uncanny quilling), but the old air horn sound on the last GS-4/TMCC GS-2's do sound better. It seems both the new GS-4's and FEF's have a bit of sound nitpicks. Let's hope the T-1's coming out in Winter will be more well received in that area.

The new Daylights are real nice, and the 4449 cab number should make them sell well, but I think I'll wait until the 2007 No.4436's come on the secondary market.

David, did you listen to horn is the video posted here. Sick cow is pretty good description of the real deal.

Tom,  All the SP GS-4 locomotives were equipped with an air operated,  Hancock "deep steamboat" whistle, which was mounted in the skyline casing, forward of the cab. Maybe the whistle on that recording was dubbed from another locomotive?

To all Forumites:  Mea Culpa.  Pecavi.

I found that old record and dusted it off, and the steam whistle is indeed a "steamboat" style.  I am usually better than that at recalling details.  I didn't realize I still had it, or I'd have fact-checked myself before posting.  I've removed the post.

Thanks for keeping me honest, Jack.

Are the American Freedom Trains being sent out also?  Would love to see a video of this.

Me, too. If there was ever a 3-rail loco I'd buy (as I have nowhere to run one), it'd be that one. 4449 in AFT red/white/blue was the first "mainline" type steam locomotive I ever saw.
