Std Gauge CMC 2-4-0

Nice video, thanks for posting. Looks like your 2-4-0 is in great shape apart from the drivers. I have the tank version of that engine, with a bunker in back of the cab. It's apart at the moment for some restoration. 

What did you use for a replacement driver? Do Lionel-type wheels fit, or did you locate a CMC original, or what?

I'm not a tinplate guy, but I think tinplate is really cool. What causes the drivers to swell? What material are we talking about?

This is a common problem with cast parts. Most all the manufacturers had zinc pest issues, although it has become a lot less common in the modern era, but it does still occur. The manufacturers let impurities get in the molten metal.

Southwest

The wheel I used was a Bowser wheel I removed from a McCoy Little Chief. Someone had done a poor job of installing them so I got some McCoy drivers and put the Bowser ones in the parts box. The only issue is you would need to tap a larger thread to hold the CMC drive rod screw. Also on CMC,  you need 4 ungeared drivers, not two geared and 2 ungeared.

These CMC/CMT locos came with MEW wheels as the stock configuration. These were the Lionel repro steam drivers and are the obviously the same as Lionel or any of their replacements. So any of the repro wheels from MEW, Bowser, McCoy, etc. will work. MTH drivers use a different sized axle so they don't quite work.

Thanks for the continuing education. Are you coming out my way in November again? I just mailed my registration.

The coaches in the video were kits as well as the yellow & green set I have. I've never seen an engine kit.............yet.
