Here is a link to the book  on Amazon.

The website and free downloadable version will be forthcoming as soon as I learn a bit more about manipulating wordpress and my developer gets the site cleaned up.  Again, that one will be free - and has eight corrections from the published book (all minor, not affecting content) that I could somehow not get Amazon to overcome - but the photos will not be quite as sharp or dramatic in color.

I was very happy to find it, and it seems to be working for Amazon - a lot of books on model railroading at done through it, such as Thomas Barker's excellent book on repairing S gauge locos.  I hope they are making money, I really want them to b e there over the long run . . .

Lee,

This is the first I have heard of Amazon's Createspace.  It sounds like a really good idea, and I too hope it sticks around.  After Volume II, I would like to see a book with your story of actress Veranda Turbine.  What you have posted here was great!

I will be ordering a copy of your book like John said when I make a larger order in the near future.

Lee is correct about Createpace's process. My wife has never written anything before and they were very helpful and encouraging. She also opted to use some of their services to ensure that everything went smoothly and was cost effective.

Her book has an interesting story that I can share with you if you'd like to send me a personal email. You can check it out here:

Sam,

Thanks for the testimonial about Createspace.  I can envision a lot of model railroaders being able to use this to share their knowledge with a wider audience.  I took a look at your link and will e-mail you off list sometime this weekend.

Lee, I received my copy of your Streets book yesterday.  It looks great!  Very thorough and lots of practical information.

It has me imagining how I can incorporate Streets into a layout that is in the infant stage of planning.  I have often thought I would like my vehicles to move since I was a teenager wondering how to put an HO slot car track on my 4x8 layout.  I never did anything with it.  No funds.  I remember reading an article with lots of color photos in Boys Life magazine around 1970 where 2 kids built a Grand Prix type race track complete with scenery.  I was quite impressed.

Thank you again for taking the time and effort to publish this book and sharing what you have learned!!

Thank you everyone for the kind words.  I am glad you like it.  I also appreciate the five-star reviews folks gave the book on Amazon.

I get sales stats at the end of the month from amazon.  Through this morning my "best seller" has sold 317 copies - actually not at all bad for what is basically a self-published book in only 51 days and much better than I expected.  There was an initial surge of sales and it settled down to about 2 or 3 copies a day in sales, and then the latest OGR magazine came out with the ads, and sales picked up to about a dozen a day or more the last week.

Interestingly, slightly fewer, Dreamhost's counter says only 292 through this morning, downloads of the free version have been made.

The second book is in preparation for publication and should be on Amazon in a week to ten days.

I wanted to bump this to up, first to thank the 500+ folks who have bought so far: both books are selling several copies a day.  Thanks for the interest.

Also to note to  all the people who are e-mailing me with questions (and everyone is still welcome to) before they buy:

First, Amazon's dynamic discounting price on these books (the faster they sell the more they discount the price) has both down  - under $10for the first one, just over that for the second.

Second, you can look before you buy: on the image of the book it has the "look inside" feature, and lets you look through a lot of the book, definately enough to get an idea if its what you have in mind.   You don't even have to go to my website and download the free copy to have a look at it.  It's right there, and can help you decide if the book is really want.

Lee,

Thanks again for taking the time to compile all of your work and knowledge into info that we can use to make our own progress in this venue. I had downloaded both the pdf versions and found I liked them so much, I ordered both from Amazon and just received them today.

Are there any thoughts on any additional issues?

Thanks again!
