Gentlemen, I had an opportunity to see and run one of Sunset's 4-8-0 Mollies lately. At first glance its appearance hit me as looking very much like the prototype. In my opinion and I don't care much for N&W I think this model is a great example of the high accuracy level of detail being offered on these later models. The smoke box and boiler along with the wheel sets all were within drawing specs, however, the lead truck wheels did not have openings between the spokes. Except for a little motor noise the model ran flawlessly. This is

one of the nicest small locomotives produced lately. Regards, Sam Shumaker

You sent me the video of the 475! Kanawha did the track test for me. Just need to replace one traction tire and exchange the pilot. My 3rd Rail version will be running at the SMV in November!

The Va Creeper consist is boxed and ready to go.

The M is a well detailed and smooth running engine and I can find only one fault with it.  It is the coupler on the  pilot and I don't mean the fact that it is upside down.  It is a NON-operating coupler.

I told a dealer that all of the small steam locos should have operating couplers (KD) on the pilot so they can switch cars.  He relayed the message to Scott and Scott relayed the message to the MAN in China.  So, hopefully, we will have operating couplers on the pilot of all future steam engines.

Now, if only Scott would offer the DCC option on all steamers like he is doing with the DRGW engine!

I did not have that problem with the front coupler. Yours must have been installed upside down for some reason. I have had in the past, however, a problems with the couplers being too low or too high. The best approach to this would be to use the new KD's which provide offset height couplers for that.

DCC? Well that option is coming. Be patient. SS

IMO a wide Kadee coupler pocket would take away from the prototype appearance of the pilot beam - and in most cases is not necessary for hands off switching.  I have several Key PRR H's that I've switched with regularly for years.  I simply cut and file the shank of a Kadee and mount it in place of the dummy. The gathering range of the coupler is broad enough that it does not need centering springs to couple or uncouple in most circumstances, while the setup preserves the appearance of the pilot beam.  What I do sacrifice is delayed uncoupling - a compromise I'm willing to accept.  Give it a try - it only takes a few minutes to do.

I agree completely.  I personally am looking forward to the O1a...it's great to see these models being made.

I have admired the Strasburg's example, but was surprised as it appears to me to be a small engine, or at least, smaller than the 8 driver configuration had me thinking.  That size, driver number, and the double pilot truck must have been planned for curvy track, but heavy loads.  (which just might describe the N&W's coalhauling application for it) Intersting, for it is different.

Yeah I'm in....I wouldn't mind an O4 either...just sayin...
